Although the Dutch are considered to be one of the earliest players of golf and records show that they played golf on Colombo’s impressive Galle Face Esplanade during the mid-17th Century, it was actually some British golf enthusiasts who inaugurated the Royal Colombo Golf Club in 1879 which was then institutionalized in 1891. This is the second oldest golf course outside Britain.

- The Royal Colombo Golf Club is the oldest Golf Club in Sri Lanka and the 2nd (second) oldest Royal Golf Club outside the British Isles. - Nuwara Eliya Golf Club is acclaimed as one of Asia’s finest Golf Courses and has a 6075-yard course. It is nestled between the Nuwara Eliya town and the surrounding forested hills are scenic and picturesque.
Waters Edge Golf Club is situated in Colombo and is the newest golf course. It is located amidst tranquil and natural surroundings and has five par 5’s, five par 3’s and eight par 4’s.
